I read a quote this week that really moved me and I immediately saved it to MyMind (been loving this tool for months).

“Maybe the journey isn’t so much about becoming anything. Maybe it’s about unbecoming everything that isn’t really you, so you can be who you were meant to be in the first place.” – Paulo Coelho

I just completed a year-long apprenticeship with Robert Ellis and several other incredible executive coaches (Peter Kovacs, Greg Rickman, Vanessa Shaw, Daniel Stillman, Duncan Drechsel, and Doug Erwin), who started out as colleagues and became dear friends.

The crux of our work together was this: helping others (and in the process, ourselves) create something better than they can imagine that is in alignment with their essence.

Your essence is your natural way of being in the world that adds value without any thought or effort on your part.

We spend much of our childhood, adolescence, and even adulthood learning and trying to “become” something. What I’ve personally found over the last few years is that I’ve invested just as much energy “unlearning”. I’ve been on an “unbecoming” quest to strip away what isn’t mine so that I can reconnect with my own essence and create from that place.

The timing of me stumbling across that quote as this apprenticeship was ending felt serendipitous. If you also find yourself on an unbecoming quest, here’s to you.

And, if you’d like to create something better than you can imagine that’s in alignment with your essence, I’d love to have a coaching conversation with you, gratis.
