We search for wisdom in all kinds of places; books, experiences, conversations, and the like. What I’ve found though is that some of my most profound epiphanies – moments of deep wisdom – have come from nature.

I have an herb garden. I keep it on my tiny apartment balcony. No flowers – just basil, parsley, mint, dill, and hot peppers.

Given that we’re well into fall, most of them are dead now. But the other day as I was walking by the balcony a bright color caught my eye.

A bright fuchsia flower:

It specifically caught my eye because the day before, there was no fuchsia blossom – just those green leaves you see in the pot. I thought it was a weed.

As I said, I planted no flowers.

I’m sure someone in my area did. Somehow, the wind carried that flower’s seed all the way up to my apartment and serendipitously dropped it in this pot rather than the metal balcony floor a few inches over.

And I thought to myself:

“Look at this fuc*ing flower!”

“It didn’t even try. I didn’t even try.”

“It just did its thing – it just let the wind carry it.”

In that moment and now, I want to be like that flower. I want to do my thing and let the wind, the universe, life (whatever you want to call it) carry me.

I want to ease up on “efforting”.

I want to create seeds that are in alignment with my essence, see where they land, and watch serendipity unfold.

Not every seed will land somewhere fruitful, and it’s not meant to. I leave that to the wind.
